Drawing & Visual Arts
Working as a professional artist for over a decade, she studied at City & Guilds of London Art School (CGLAS) and is the winner of the de Laszlo Prize for portraiture and Sir Roger de Grey Life Drawing Prize.
Her artist-in-residence experiences include the Dept for Cardio Thoracic Surgery at Papworth Hopsital (where she made over 100 drawings observing heart surgeries), the Dept for Neuroscience (as part of ArtNeuro) and in 2019 the prestigious Cill Rialaig residency in a remote part of Co Kerry, Ireland.
Other experience includes working as a Secretary of Juliet in Verona, Italy (answering the letters of the broken hearted) and learning the ancient technique of egg tempera from Benedictine nuns at Turvey Abbey in Bedfordshire. Lectures include Sci Bar and a talk about science and public engagement at Senate House.
Kate’s approach to work is very broad and includes stop-motion drawn films, graphic short stories, installation and sound work - but always with drawing at the centre of her practice. Inspired by science, film, myth and the absurd, visually she’s a true omnivore.
